Royal Oak is north of Crowchild Trail, and east of Rocky Ridge Road, about 1 kilometre west of Stoney Trail. There will soon be road access directly to Stoney Trail, which connects the community to the Trans-Canada Highway, just west of Canada Olympic Park.

Schools
Some public school students are being bused to Cochrane's Elizabeth Barrett Elementary, Manachaban Elementary/Junior High and Cochrane High. New students can also be bussed to Dalhousie Elementary, H.D Cartwright Junior High (also in Dalhousie), and Bowness High.

Separate school students are being bussed to St. Dominic Elementary in northwest Dalhousie, Brebeuf Junior High near Northland Village Shops, and St. Francis High on Northmount Drive N.W. A separate school is going to be built just east of Rocky Ridge Boulevard.

Shopping
Crowfoot Town Centre, off Nose Hill Drive, has a Safeway and Revy, restaurants and several auto dealers.

Recreation
The community has a 3,000-square-foot clubhouse, a pond with paddle boats, and plenty of green space with two tennis courts, a beach volleyball court and a jungle gym facility. There is an annual fee of $250. When the separate school is built, east of Rocky Ridge Rd, there will be two ball diamonds and a soccer field included.

Builders
Royal Oak construction began in 1995, with all houses in cul-de-sacs and crescents off the main collector route, Rocky Ridge Way.
