Moving Home

Packing Check List

Moving from Ireland to Canada we learned the hard way, most of the pitfalls associated with relocating. That was ten years ago, today I work as a realtor and relocation specialist in Calgary. If I can be of assistance making sure you don't make the same mistakes, please give me a call.  or fill out the form below and I will get back to you.

Packing Items Before Moving

PACKING MATERIALS REQUIRED

  • A selection of good sturdy boxes and containers.

  • Filler material such as Styrofoam nuggets, newspaper etc.

  • Heavy duty box tape

  • Bubble wrap.

  • Fragile stickers.

  • Box Labels to identify contents.

HOW BEST TO PACK ITEMS

Double box any fragile items and mark the boxes as such. Place any heavy items in smaller boxes and mark them as "heavy" or "over weight" This makes it easer for the movers when loading the truck. Mark the destination room that the package should be placed in on the outside of the box. For example, "kitchen or master bedroom". Don't pack small valuable items such as jewelry or cash. Instead take this with you in your own car. Number boxes and keep an itemized list of all items packed and the boxes they are in.

PRIORITIZE YOUR PACKING

When packing, try and sort any items you are going to need first, by packing them last. Pack any items you are going to need immediately such as food or clothing in a separate box and take that one with you in your own car. If you have small children remember to leave some toys or games unpacked and available for quick access on any long journeys. Also, don't forget to bring along some snacks and drinks for the children if it's going to be a long drive.

Like I said, when it comes to the moving thing I have been there and have the scars to prove it. If I can help you learn from my own experiences please don't hesitate to call me on (403) 383-8025.
